A Letter to a Best Friend

Dear Bestfriend,

Dipica Nishrint: Graduated with Bachelor of Commerce, Accountany and Finance

Yesterday was one of your biggest days in history of your life, Graduation! Watching you make your way to receive the scroll, hearing your name being mentioned as a University of Queensland graduate in Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accountancy and Finance made me so proud of you. You made all of us proud. The day when we met again (after so long) in front of Hungry Jacks, Brisbane City. only God knows how happy I was having a companion, a true reliable friend whom I trust the most, never fails to be there for me through thick and thin of my daily miserable life walking beside me.

Do you remember how we first met each other? What a hilarious way of knowing each other but from that unexpected funny thing I found my best friend. We became best friends. The purest pearls among all.

They say a minute to meet a special person, an hour to appreciate them. A day to love them, but an entire life time to forget them.

Of course we had our fare share of misunderstanding, silly fights (like all the time!) merajuk here and there but I'm grateful we went through all of it, because of em, it made our friendship stronger than ever before. They say There are differences between you and your best friend that sometimes will make you fight, but also will make the friendship stronger.

When I came back to Brisbane City. Knowing that you wouldn't be there with me to share the tears and laughter, it was so difficult for me. Being alone. No one to turn to. No one to talk to. While I unpack and go through all the things that I left behind at Brisbane, I found a letter from you.

Dated: 3:30am 10/1/2010. You definitely have no idea that I am returning home.

Those first few lines already put a heavy weight on my heart. Our journeys together from one phase to another, having you supporting me behind my back made me so weak when you are not here anymore. I got so comfortable having you around me. And now when I'm here all alone. I took a big blow on the face. Then I realized how much friendship means to me. They say having a thousand friends isn't a miracle. The miracle is to have a friend who'll stand by you when thousands are against you.

I must have never say this to you before. You are one and only non-muslim friend that I can speak comfortably about religion. You understand so much about Islam as much as I understand about your race and religion Gujarati (I hope I spell this right) We respect each others believes and whenever exam draws near, we remind ourselves to keep on praying to our own Gods. Because of this, you made me realize that there can be peace between each religion and races if we understand and respect each other.

Now whenever we talk. I noticed that it's all about "remember those days?" "dulu-dulu"  "ingat lagi tak?" we created abundant sweet and funny memories together :) but I hope we will stop saying that and focus on building a future together as bestfriends. Although you are miles far away from me. Although the only way we can talk or see each other are through webcam and whatsapp (thank god to that!) you are always in my mind, heart and prayers. If God wants to take you away from me, I only wish for one thing in return. A safe and warm journey for you in life. May your friends respect you. Your troubles neglect you. Your family protect you. and negativity not affect you. Amin

The one who appreciate you most;
Aiman Ariffin
